BOSSGIRLS NEED BREAKS TOO: LEARN TO R&R LIKE A PRO

Good Morning loves!!! Hope you’ve all made the most of your hectic weeks so far and are ready for some R&R this weekend like I am. We’re almost there!!! If you don’t have any plans this weekend, or you do,  scrap them because I have a new plan for you.

Something far too many of struggle with is slowing down and taking some time off. We go, go, go, and don’t even realize that we’re stressing and tiring ourselves out, making ourselves less productive and effective; the complete opposite of what we think we’re doing by constantly working ourselves to the core! Because of this, I’ve decided to dedicate a post to reminding all of you that it’s okay to take a break, it’s okay to do nothing for a day, and it’s okay to not feel bad about it!

We often forget that to be at our absolute best, we need to be fully charged. And when you’re waking up at 6 am and going all day until 10 or 11 pm, it’s impossible to be the best you can be at that continuous pace without taking some time to de-stress and re-energize.

One of my favourite things about the fall and winter months is spending more time in the comfort of my home and not feeing bad about it! As much as I love having weekend plans and keeping busy, I love being able to spend time indoors cooking, organizing, visiting time with family, or simply relaxing without feeling like I’m wasting the day or should be doing something else like I do in the summer months when it’s actually warm outside.

Specifically, there’s nothing I love more than a lazy Saturday or Sunday morning. And by lazy, I don’t mean sleep in til 1 pm (but if that’s you, have at ‘er!!! This is your morning, girl!) I mean wake up, don’t change into anything but another pair of pjs and do things for YOU!

Here’s some ideas for how you can take the morning off to reward yourself for a long week, or just because you know you deserve it!

1. MAKE COFFEE

or better yet, have someone else make it for you. Or pick it up for you!

Firs things first: there is no better way to start a morning off than with a hot cup o’ joe, or your favourite Starbucks bev. And ALWAYS put it in your favourite mug. For me, my favourite ceramic Starbucks mug. Something about sipping out of a cup you love makes the coffee taste that much better.

2. STAY IN BED

for as long as you want. Nowhere to be, and no one to tell you otherwise, so soak it up!

Sometimes I rush myself out of bed in the morning, only to do nothing once I’m up anyways. Enjoy that feeling of having nowhere to be and nothing to do! Stay in bed as long as you want, whether that’s just long enough to do a social media recap, to watch an episode of your favourite show you have PVR’d, or just to snuggle up for a little bit longer.

3. PUT ON YOUR COMFIEST

sweatpants, robe, or skip the shower and continue to stay in your pjs. Lounge around in what you love!

Even if that’s a bed-sized blanket draped around you all morning (ME). Trying to stay relaxed is so much easier when you’re wearing something comfy. For me, that’s a sleep romper. I always find the best ones from Target and Old Navy! They’re so light & soft, and the perfect piece to wear under a robe or with a big blanket wrapped around you. Plus, for some reason I feel much better wearing a cute little one-piece to bed, than I do wearing an old T and boxer shorts (safe to say the BF will definitely agree… sorry ratty old T’s!) Sleep rompers are straight up a quick fix to become the green-tea sipping, yoga-practicing girl over the stayed-up-too-late, slightly-hungover girl… right?

See more of my favourite sleep rompers at the end of this post

4. LIGHT YOUR FAVOURITE CANDLE

Because nothing says relaxing like the light flicker & sounds of a wood-wick candle.

Candles aren’t solely for the scent, because the soothing sound of the wick burning is actually life-changing! If you’ve never owned a wood-wick candle, pause your reading of this post and GET ONE! I love Coal & Canarybut anything will do. BONUS if it has a sweet statement on it. See another one of my favs with a cute, inspirational phrase below.

5. PAMPER YOURSELF

because, well, you know you deserve it.

Quench your hair or skin’s thirst with a treatment or mask that you’ve been dying to use all week but haven’t gotten the chance. Try that 5-step facial treatment that takes too long to go through on a weekday morning. Or, soak in the bath with a LUSH bomb or your favourite bubble path for as long as you like. It’s the perfect time to take care of  yourself because you know you won’t be leaving the house for a while anyways, so you might as well make the most of it

6. READ A MAG, REPAINT YOUR NAILS, LISTEN TO A PODCAST, MEDITATE

Because it’s your morning. You’re allowed to do whatever you want.

So either you’re a hardcore Buddhist or you have no idea how to sit still. Whatever it is, do what works for YOU! You may have no idea how to meditate, but painting your nails might be just as calming for you. Or zoning out into a story with a good book. Take some time (or lots of time) and do something mindless that will put you into a state of zen, whatever zen means to you.

And voila! Taking a break for yourself is really not as hard as it sounds, but yet we put it off and continue our busy lives forgetting that we actually need to relax & regroup every once in a while so that we can function at our top potential for the rest of the time! See more on that here. I challenge each and every one of you to find some time this weekend to simply chill out and enjoy some time to yourself. Girl, you can do everything else, so I’m certain you can do this!

“Easy like Sunday morning…”
