Stay & Play Golf in Morden-Winkler

Stay & Play Golf in Morden-Winkler

Fall is one of my favourite times of year to explore new places, and it’s also the perfect time to book a local getaway in Manitoba! This year, we wanted to cross a few more Manitoba golf courses off our list, so the Stay & Play Golf in Morden-Winkler was the perfect package!

Just an hour and a half from Winnipeg, Morden and Winkler are hidden gems in the province and a must-visit on your local bucket list! I love a good staycation (or mini-vacation), and my boyfriend Nico loves to golf, so it making the short trek out to the twin cities of Morden-Winkler to golf some of Manitoba’s best courses and make a mini trip out of it was a no-brainer for us.

Planning is often the most stressful part of a trip or staycation, but the Stay & Play Golf in Morden-Winkler package makes it so easy, knowing you’re getting the very best for the best price — ballin’ on a budget as some might say. For $289, the Stay & Play Package offers you a value of ~$400+, making it the perfect package for a girls’ or guys’ getaway, or a weekend trip with your partner. It’s a 1-night stay at the Quality Inn Winkler, a round for 2 at both Minnewasta Golf & Country Club and at Winkler Centennial Golf Course, carts at both courses, plus breakfast and lounge eats all included!

Interested in setting up your own weekend golf getaway on a budget? Here’s our itinerary!

Check in to the Quality Inn Winkler

Once we arrived at the town of Winkler, we were able to check in early as our beautiful, spacious room was available at the Quality Inn Winkler! We brought in our bags, took a catnap on the oh-so-comfortable cloud-like bed, and got geared up for our first game of the weekend.

Golf in Morden (Minnewasta Golf & Country Club)

Morden’s Minnewasta Golf & Country Club is one of the top-rated courses in Manitoba, and for good reason! We pulled up to Minnewasta and I was immediately taken aback by the hilly terrain — something we don’t see a lot of in Manitoba! As a leisurely golfer, I was a little bit intimidated by just how nice the course looked, but that fear quickly went away when we hopped on our electric golf cart and headed down to the driving range for some prep before the round (included with the round). The 18-hole course is challenging but definitely playable for golfers of all levels. Nico is a much more experienced golfer than myself, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our round. The stunning views don’t hurt either!

R&R at the Quality Inn Winkler Pool & Hot Tub

After 18 holes, nothing sounded better than heading back to the Quality Inn Winkler to relax in the beautiful pool area and soak in the hot tub. The atmosphere is so relaxing, and the weekend we stayed it was quite quiet, just another family or 2 in the pool area while we had the whole hot tub to ourselves. Many of the hotel rooms even walk out to the pool for easy access!

Nightcap at CK’s Lounge

After the soak, we rinsed off and changed to head to CK’s Lounge, the bar and lounge located right in the hotel. The Stay & Play package includes 2 x $10 gift cards, the perfect amount for us to enjoy a glass of wine, a pint of beer, and 12 wings (which are on special Saturday nights for just $0.59 each!). It was the perfect way to cap off the night before another round in the morning.

Breakfast at Country Kitchen

Rise & shine! After a good night’s sleep, we packed up our bags and headed down for some breakfast fuel before another big game. We enjoyed a delicious (and large!) breakfast of eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, toast, and coffee at the Quality Inn’s Country Kitchen restaurant, also included in our Stay & Play package!

Golf in Winkler (Winkler Centennial Golf Course)

Constructed the same year as Canada’s Centennial and just a few minutes drive from the hotel, Winkler Centennial Golf Course (WCGC) is another gem, with a slightly less challenging play! An equally as beautiful 18-hole course and clubhouse, WCGC was perfect for a Sunday morning round. Still challenging, but wider and with fewer trees and sandtraps to get in the way of my shot, as a more casual golfer, I appreciated this course for my beginner-mid level skills.

Lunch at Mulligan’s Restaurant

After the round, a stop at Mulligan’s restaurant in the clubhouse is a must! Not only is the patio and screened-in area stunning, but the food is incredible and offers everything from my personal choice, Roasted Beet & Peach Salad, to a Honey Dill Wrap, Buddha Bowls, Burgers, BBQ Glazed Salmon and so much more. I recommend an outdoor spot so you can have a stunning view of the 18th hole! We didn’t have any cocktails as we’d soon be heading home, but if you happen to play WCGC on Saturday instead, a cocktail would be the perfect addition.

We truly had the best experience with our Stay & Play Golf in Morden-Winkler package! Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or someone who plays just occasionally, these courses are must-plays, and the Quality Inn is the most wonderful home base for a couple days in Morden-Winkler!
